Life just isn’t fair, and physical attractiveness lets some people get ahead without even trying.

Studies have shown that attractive people are more likely to get favorable treatment in school, at work, and in social situations.

There is a lot you can do to make yourself  appear more attractive and a lot of them have the scientific research backing it. It’s human nature and there are things you can do that can completely change the way people look at you. Here are the ways to appear more attractive than you really are.

Secrets To Being Undeniably Attractive

Personal Hygiene

If your overall hygiene is good, whether it’s having a shower or brushing your teeth then you’re more presentable. It’s a small thing, but hygiene can have a big impact on how someone perceives you. It’s always more attractive when someone looks clean and is well groomed.

Shower every day.

A quick rinse-off before you start your day will make you look, smell and feel a little prettier, no matter what else is going on. Try to get it down to a routine that you can easily get through in five or 10 minutes.

  • Wash your hair on a regular schedule. You don’t need to wash your hair everytime you shower — and, in fact, people with coarser hair should stick to every other day, or even every three days. Whatever works best for you, be consistent. Your scalp gets into a routine when it comes to releasing oils into your hair, so make your life easier by maintaining the same schedule.

  • Trim and clean your nails once or twice a week. Your nails will be softest and most workable when you first get out of the shower, so it’s a good opportunity to do a quick trim. You’ll have clean, presentable fingers and toes without having to do a full-on mani-pedi.

  • Manage body hair. Address any shaving in the shower, and take care of plucking as soon as you get out. As a general rule of thumb, try to shave armpits every day and legs every other day, and clean up your brows once a week.

  • Put on deodorant as soon as you get out. It’s also a good time to put on fragrance, whether it’s perfume or a light body spray. (Just go easy and make sure you don’t use too much!)

Smile

It’s been proven that men and women are more attractive to the opposite sex when they have a genuine smile. Your eyes just get drawn to someone who is smiling and it’s give’s off this positive energy. When someone smiles they appear a lot more friendly and are a lot more approachable.

Pull Up Your Double Chin

Have a little extra skin under your chin that you’d prefer not to see in pictures? Right before the shutter clicks, lift your tongue up to the roof of your mouth. The slight muscle movement pulls up the skin underneath your jaw and gives you a leaner look.

(Also remember this trick the next time you get a brain freeze from eating ice cream too fast. The heat from your tongue helps kill the pain.)

And if you’re trying to tone up your jawline in the long-term, try chewing gum. It strengthens the muscles and slowly burns fat, like a treadmill for your face.

Being calm and relaxed

We are automatically more attracted to someone that is calm and serene. People who seem assured of themselves and are comfortable in who they are will appear far more attractive.

Practice good posture.

The way you carry yourself tells other people a lot about how you feel, so make sure you’re communicating confidence.

  • Hold your head high. Don’t look down at the ground.

  • Keep your shoulders back and relaxed.

  • Stand with feet hips-width apart.

  • Balance your weight evenly on both feet.

Roll Your Shoulders Back and Stand Tall

Mom was right to tell you to stand up tall. Body language often says more about us than words can.

Biologically, slouching is a signal of weakness, as if we’re curling up to protect our vital organs during an attack. The biggest, strongest alpha males in the animal kingdom strut around unguarded, showing that they aren’t afraid of other competing males.

Rolling back your shoulders and sticking your chest out a little shows that you are confident in your abilities, whether it’s fighting off competitors or fighting for a mate—all without saying a word.

Walk with poise.

Did you know that beauty queens spend hours re-learning how to walk? Sounds silly, but they’re practicing walking in a way that appears graceful and floaty. Follow these quick tips instead of spending so much time on pageant training:

  • Don’t drag your feet. Avoid shuffling or only lifting your feet to the minimum possible height that allows you to walk.

  • Let your hips swivel slightly. An exaggerated swivel can cause back pain, but so can trying to maintain an unnaturally pelvis while you walk. Instead, allow your hips to swing with the motion of your walking.

  • Try not to bounce up and down too much. Practice walking in a way that keeps your head at the same height, even as the rest of your body is moving.

Appearing unattainable

To an extent obviously, but if you play hard to get it will make the other person want you more. We’re not attracted to someone that is desperate, so playing hard to get is a great way to build attraction. Girls are more attracted to a guy when he doesn’t make it obvious whether he likes her or not, it makes them think about him more.

Being unselfish

This is especially true when a guy comes off this way. Girls are attracted to men that care and show compassion towards other. Guys will also find someone more attractive if they are kind and generous and aren’t always thinking about themselves.

Name dropping

This is definitely a sure fire way to appear more attractive. When you’re talking to someone and every once in a while you say their name, we are hardwired to act positively and our brain responds when someone mentions our name. So next time you’re talking to someone you like, drop their name in there every now and again.

Emphasize the best parts of you

There is no one universally appealing style. It’s about what cut of clothing and accessory will emphasize the best parts of you and your personality.

Be kind and likable person

The more you are a kind and likable person, the more people will find you attractive. People are naturally quicker to associate good looks with a good person, and vice versa.

Personal style

Attractive people always have personal style staples that they incorporate into their “look.” Figure out what about you you like most, and play that up. It makes you more confident, which is arguably even more important than the feature itself.

Dressed for the situation

Attractive people are always appropriately dressed for the situation at hand. It’s never appealing to be underdressed for an interview or inappropriately clothed for a funeral. Be respectful of your circumstances.

Eye Contact

When you’re talking to someone (especially someone you like), demonstrate that you’re interested and paying attention by making consistent eye contact.

  • Use eye contact to flirt. Throw several glances at someone sitting near you or across the room until he or she catches you. Maintain eye contact for a second, smile and look away.

When someone looks you in the eyes it means that they are giving you their full attention. We are always more attracted to someone that does this, rather than when a person averts their gaze from you.

Strong Scent

The most basic but overlooked staple of being attractive is smelling good. Playing into the other senses, touch (having soft skin), smell (being clean), taste (use your imagination), is what ultimately makes someone undeniably appealing, and tends to be what people will focus on more than just visual.

If you have a certain scent that you always wear, no matter what it is, it will mix with your own natural fragrance and make it personal to you. You don’t want to over do things and cake yourself in it, but having a noticeable scent will make you more attractive.

Being passionate about something

Whether it’s your line of work or just one of your hobbies, when you show passion for something it makes you more attractive. It lets people see what type of person you are and the motivationsbehind the way you act. Don’t be afraid to geek out every now and then, we react positively to someone that is inspired by something they love.

Shave or trim your facial hair. Whether you choose to be bare-faced or have a beard, the key is taking care to groom your facial hair every day.

  • For a clean-shaven look, shave every morning before you leave for work or school. Wet your skin first, and use a sharp razor and shaving cream. Shaving against the grain (that is, in the opposite direction of hair growth, from your jaw to your cheek) provides a closer shave, but results in more irritation. If you struggle with ingrown hairs, try shaving with the grain.

  • Manage your beard, mustache or goatee. Make sure the edges are neat and clean, and trim any hair so that it’s uniformly long. When you’re cleansing your face, pay special attention to scrubbing the skin beneath any facial hair.

Know how to highlight your best features.

Here’s a basic rule of getting dressed: light colors highlight, and dark colors obscure. For instance, if you like your shoulders but you’re not as fond of your legs, you might try wearing dark-wash jeans and a light-colored T-shirt.

Speak clearly and carefully.

When you talk to other people, try not to mumble or rush your words. Form full sentences, and avoid opening your mouth before you’ve really thought about what you’re going to say — it will save you a lot of potential embarrassment.

Improve your intelligence.

For some women, nothing is more attractive than being intelligent. Keep up to date with school work and work hard to achieve those top grades. Read daily, and read a newspaper so you’re up to date with current affairs.

For teenage girls, looking your best and attracting admirers is easy when you put your mind to it. Whether you’re reading this to make new friends, catch your crushes eye or simply to feel better about yourself, these steps will help in any situation!

Pushing your attractiveness in other people’s faces will not convince them that you are appealing looking. People call Beyonce a goddess because she wouldn’t say that herself and mock Kanye because he would. That’s the best analogy I could think of for this.
