Sayings Of Hazrat Muhammad PBUH

Charity

The Prophet Muhammad (s) said: “Do not turn away a poor man…even if all you can give is half a date. If you love the poor and bring them near you…God will bring you near Him on the Day of Resurrection.”
——— Al-Tirmidhi, Hadith 1376.

A man giving in alms one piece of silver in his lifetime is better for him than giving one hundred when about to die.

To meet friends cheerfully and invite them to a feast are charitable acts.
To extend consideration towards neighbors and send them presents are charitable acts.

Education

To acquire knowledge is binding upon all Muslims, whether male or female.

The ink of the scholar is more holy than the blood of the martyr.

He who travels in the search of knowledge, to him God shows the way of Paradise.

Acquire knowledge, because he who acquires it, in the way of the Lord, performs an act of piety; who speaks of it praises the Lord; who seeks it, adores God, who dispenses instruction in it, bestows alms; and who imparts it to its fitting objects, performs an act of devotion to God. Knowledge enables its possessor to distinguish what is forbidden from what is not; lights the way to Heaven; it is our friend in the desert, our companion in solitude, our companion, when bereft of riends; it guides us to happiness; it sustains us in misery; it is our ornament in the company of friends; it serves as an armor against our enemies. With knowledge the creatures of Allah rises to the heights of goodness and to noble position, associates with the sovereigns in this world and attains the perfection of happiness in the next.

Envy

Keep yourselves far from envy, because it eats up and takes away good actions, like the fire that eats up and burns wood.

Supression of Anger

Whoever suppresses his anger, when he has in his power to show it, God will give him a great reward.

He is not strong and powerful, who throws people down, but he is strong who withholds himself from anger.

Behavior

Deal gently with a people, and be not harsh; cheer them and condemn not.

Much silence and a good disposition; there are no two works better than these.

The best of friends is he who is best in behavior and character.

One who does not practice modesity and does not refrain from shameless deeds is not a Muslim.

Parents and Family

Paradise lies at the feet of thy mother.

He who wishes to enter Paradise must please his father and mother.

Pride

No one who keeps his mind focussed entirely upon himself, can grow large, strong and beautiful in character.

Remembrance of God

Whoever loves to meet God, God loves to meet him.

The five stated prayers erase the sins which have been committed during the intervals between them if they have not been mortal sins.

Sympathy

God is not merciful to him who is not so to humankind. He who is not kind to God’s creation and to his own children, God will not be kind to him.

Whosoever visits a sick person, an angel calls from Heaven: “Be happy in the world and happy be your walking; and take your habitation in Paradise.”

Wordly Love and Materialism

The love of the world, is the root of all evils.

Wealth properly employed is a blessing; and a man may lawfully endeavour to increase it by honest means.

Avoiding What is Doubtful

——— Riyadh-us-Salaheen, Hadith 1589.

The Prophet (s) said, “Shall I inform you about the people of Paradise? They comprise every obscure unimportant humble person, and if he takes Allah’s Oath that he will do that thing, Allah will fulfill his oath (by doing that). ——— Prophet Muhammad (s) as as narrated by Ibn Hibban.

The Birth of Prophet Muhammad SAW

Prophet Muhammad SAW was born in Makkah, around 570 C.E. He is the model for humanity for all walks of life to follow until the Last Hour. God sent him as a mercy for the worlds.

He was born into a family belonging to a clan of Quraish, the ruling tribe of Makkah. The city of Makkah was dominated by powerful merchant families among whom the men of Quraish were prominent. Prophet Muhammad SAW’s father, ‘Abd Allah ibn’Abd al-Muttalib, died before he was born, his mother, Bibi Aminah, died when he was six. Just before his birth, Bibi Amina had a dream wherein she saw a light issuing forth from her and illuminating the palaces of Basra. As was the custom in those days, upon his birth he nursed from Halima Al-Saadia. He lived for two years with her. In addition to enduring the hardships of desert life, he acquired a taste for the rich language so loved by the Arabs, whose speech was their proudest art, and learned the patience and forbearance of the herdsmen, whose life of solitude he first shared and then came to understand and appreciate. After the death of his mother Bibi Amina, Prophet Muhammad SAW was consigned to the care of his grandfather Abdul Muttalib, the head of the clan of Hashim. After the death of his grandfather, Prophet Muhammad SAW was raised by his uncle, Hazrat Abu Talib.

Prophet Muhammad SAW Manners and Disposition

By nature he was gentle and kind hearted, always inclined to be gracious and to overlook the faults of others. Politeness and courtesy, compassion and tenderness, simplicity and humility, sympathy and sincerity were some of the keynotes of his character. In the cause of right and justice he could be resolute and severe but more often than not, his severity was tempered with generosity. He had charming manners which won him the affection.

He always received people with courtesy and showed respect to older people. He was always the first to greet another and would not withdraw his hand from a handshake till the other man withdrew his. If one wanted to say something in his ears, he would not turn away till one had finished.

He always stood up to receive Bibi Haleema, who had reared him in infancy and had spread his own sheet for her. His foster-brother was given similar treatment. Whenever he visited a person he would first greet him and then take his permission to enter the house. He advised the people to follow this etiquette and not to get annoyed if anyone declined to give permission, for it was quite likely the person concerned was busy otherwise and did not mean any disrespect. There was no type of household work too low or too undignified for him.

Prophet Muhammad SAW Wisdom

About the year 590, Prophet Muhammad SAW, then in his twenties, entered the service of a widow named Khadija al-Kubra as a merchant actively engaged with trading caravans to the north. Sometime later Prophet Muhammad SAW married Bibi Khadija al-Kubra, by whom he had two sons – who did not survive – and four daughters.

One of the first signs of Prophet Muhammad SAW wisdom and diplomacy came when he was thirty five years old. The tribes of Quraish found it necessary to rebuild the Kaaba in order to prevent it from collapse. When they got to the point in the construction when it was necessary to insert the “Black Stone”, the tribes began to contend with one another for the honor of placing the stone in its place. This continued for a number of days until the situation became extremely volatile. Blood pacts were consummated between the various tribes to fight to the death and all-out war was on the verge of breaking out between them over this matter. At this point they came to a peaceful compromise. They agreed that the first person to enter the door of the holy mosque shall choose the one who shall receive this honor and they shall all abide by his judgment.

As it happened, the first person to enter the holy mosque was Prophet Muhammad SAW. Upon seeing him the tribes all breathed a sigh of relief and proclaimed: “It is Al-Ameen (The trustworthy), we accept him! It is Muhammad (PBUH)!.” Prophet Muhammad SAW called for a garment, laid it upon the ground, and then placed the stone in the middle of it. He then asked all of the tribes to select a single representative from their tribe who was then asked to grasp an edge of the garment. All of the chosen representatives then carried the stone together to the Kaaba. When they reached it Prophet Muhammad SAW rolled it in place.

Prophethood

It is narrated that the first signs of Prophet Muhammad SAW prophet hood was a series of visions he would receive at night which would then come true exactly as he had envisioned them.

During this period of his life Prophet Muhammad SAW traveled widely. Then, in his forties he began to retire to meditate in a cave on Mount Hira outside of Makkah, where the first of the great events of Islam took place. One day, as he sat in the cave, he heard a voice, later identified as that of the Angel Gabriel, which ordered him to:

Recite: In the name of thy Lord who created, Created man from a clot of blood.

Date of Death

What we know for sure is that day of his death was ‘Monday’, as for the date we have different narrations. The famous one is 12th rabiulawwal.

Narrated Hisham’s father: Aisha said, “I went to Abu Bakr (during his fatal illness) and he asked me, ‘In how many garments was the Prophet shrouded?’ She replied, ‘In three Sahuliya pieces of white cloth of cotton, and there was neither a shirt nor a turban among them.’ Abu Bakr further asked her, ‘On which day did the Prophet die?’ She replied, ‘He died on Monday.’ He asked, ‘What is today?’ She replied, ‘Today is Monday.’ He added, ‘I hope I shall die sometime between this morning and tonight.’ Then he looked at a garment that he was wearing during his illness and it had some stains of saffron. Then he said, ‘Wash this garment of mine and add two more garments and shroud me in them.’ I said, ‘This is worn out.’ He said, ‘A living person has more right to wear new clothes than a dead one; the shroud is only for the body’s pus.’ He did not die till it was the night of Tuesday and was buried before the morning.”

(Bukhari – Kitab al Janaiz)

13th Rabi ul Awwal: Muhammad Suleman Mansurpure

12th Rabi ul Awwal: Mubarakpuri

2nd Rabi ul Awwal: Ibn e Hajr

1st Rabi ul Awwal: Ibn e Jareer

28th Safar: Sh’ia Historians (They also mention the day to be Monday)

From the books of Hadith we can be sure that the year Prophet Muhammad died:

9th Dhil Hijjah was Friday (Bukhari – Prophetic Commentary on the Qur’an)

“….It was Friday and the Prophet was standing at ‘Arafat (i.e. the Day of Hajj)”

(Narrated by Umar bin Al-Khattab)

We have four possibilities:

1- If Dhil Hijjah, Muharram and Safar all were of 30 days, Rabi ul Awwal starts on Wednesday and Mondays fall on 6th, 13th and so on.

2- If Dhil Hijjah, Muharram and Safar all were of 29 days, Rabi ul Awwal starts on Sunday and Mondays fall on 2nd, 9th, 16th and so on.

3- If any two months were of 29 days and one of 30 days, Rabi ul Awwal starts on Monday and Mondays fall on 1st, 8th, 15th and so on.

4- If any two months were of 30 days and one of 29 days, Rabi ul Awwal starts on Monday and Mondays fall on 7th, 14th and so on.

As for 28th Safar:

1- If Dhil Hijjah and Muharram are 30 days it is Sunday.

2- If Dhil HIjjah and Muharram are 29 days it is Friday

3- If one is 29 and the other is 30 it is Saturday.

You can verify the results on Microsoft Excel.

Conclusion

Hence, the view of Ibn e Hajr (2nd Rabi ul Awwal) , view of Ibn e Jareer (1st Rabi ul Awwal) and Suleman Mansurpuri (13th Rabi ul Awwal) are the only possibilities and the common views of 12th Rabi ul Awwal and 28th Safar have been proven to be incorrect.

May Allah Make Us follow the footsteps of Prophet Muhammad and His Rightly Guided Companions. Ameen.
